Biography

Expert Orthopaedic care, in the North West.

Jonathan qualified from The School of Medicine at the University of Leeds in 2010. He underwent his foundation training in West Yorkshire before undertaking his Specialty Orthopaedic training working in hospitals across the North West, finishing in Wrightington (opens in a new tab). He obtained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2014 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2019.

To inform his practice and research, Jonathan has visited specialist centres for infection, including the ENDO-Klinik in Hamburg, Germany and the Lubinus Clinic in Kiel, Germany.

He undertook the prestigious Cavendish Fellowship (opens in a new tab) in Sheffield under the leadership of Mr Andrew Hamer and Mr Robert Kerry, focusing on complex hip and knee revision (re-do) surgery with a special interest in infection and endoprosthetic surgery.

Jonathan retuned to Wrightington in 2021 to undertake the Thackray Fellowship (opens in a new tab), under the mentorship of Mr Anil Gambhir and Prof. Tim Board, to hone his skills in revision arthroplasty and complex reconstruction.

He was appointed as a Consultant in Wrightington in 2022.

Jonathan is the Surgical Site Infection lead at Wrightington. The prevention and the treatment of infection in prosthetic joints is a specialist interest of his.

He is a lead in the Lower Limb Metastatic Bone Service, treating patients with cancer which has spread to their bones.

Jonathan is part of the regional periprosthetic fracture service in Wrightington, treating patients from other hospitals in the North West, who have sustained fractures around their joint replacements.

He is the John Charnley Trust Research and Engagement Lead in Wrightington.

Jonathan is a surgical trainer and is a mentor for junior colleagues, advancing their surgical skills. He regularly organises, contributes as a faculty member and teaches on courses in Wrightington.

He has undertaken the prestigious British Orthopaedic Associations Future Leaders Programme.

Jonathan regularly utilises bespoke custom femoral stems (total hip replacements) for specialist indications and Velys robot assisted total knee replacements.

He regularly presents, contributes and attends national and international meetings and conferences as well as continuing his interest in research with multiple publications in hip and knee arthroplasty. You can find more on his research profile here (opens in a new tab).
